At $38,900 the Aspen One watch collection will go on sale on February19, 2009.  The collection is limited to 3,267 pieces representing the exit height of Aspen Mountain.

Yes, we did say $38,900! A Netherland company, Aspen Jewelry, says “recession smession” and launches an expensive watch attributing a mountain… well not just any mountain.  But the price of the watch is only the beginning of the expenses.  The company is also throwing a 3 day party and flying in international press international press (Forbes Style, GQ Germany, Miljonaire Magazine, etc.).

It seems watch makers like to take pieces of nature and get ultimate luxury watch inspiration.  For example, the Rolex Explorer came out the same year Mount Everest was first conquered in 1953.

Also, the Burberry Chronograph Map Watch has an image of Antarctic on the dial.

So, as you see, we understand the tribute to nature, we just don’t understand the price tag?

We pride ourselves on bringing you guys the best and funkiest, stylish and trendiest, newest and most interesting watches around.  Usually, Burberry doesn’t pop in our minds when I think of watches, but we’ve stumble upon some cool and very authentic looking timepieces by Burberry.

The watch above is called the Burberry Surf and it’s a sports timepiece that’s just as comfortable as it looks.  This watch is unisex and it has a stainless steel case, a red second hand, diving bezel, alligator strap with removal cuff (we love that feature). The only problem we have this watch is pretty obvious. It’s called The Burberry Surf right? It has a diving bezel, right? Well why don’t they mention the anything about water resistance? At over $1,000, I’d hate to go swimming and realize my watch was broken.  But then, who would go swimming or surfing with an expensive watch?

On the other side of things, this Burberry Stainless Steel Watch does mention a water resistance of 5 atm.  This Burberry watch for women has a case back snap, crystal mineral glass, butterfly deployant clasp with push pings, 28 mm case diameter, and is Switzerland made.  The dial of this Burberry watch reminds us of a mixture between the traditional Burberry print, a stain glass window, and compass.
