bremontpilot2.jpgIt seems the trend for incorporating historical artifacts into a luxury watch is becoming increasingly popular. Hot on the heels of Romain Jerome’s titanic watches are pilot watches crafted from a World War II fighter plane. . The Watch designer responsible for this brilliant idea is the British Luxury Watch Brand Bremont. The EP120 pilot’s watch is made with parts from the famous RAF 1942 Spitfire Mk V fighter plane which shot down six enemy planes in a single day in World War II. Original parts of this plane has been featured in films such as the Battle of Britain. Pieces that were salvaged during the planes restoration have been incorporated into the EP120’s dial and movement. This watch has already gained a staggering following and can be spotted on the wrists of celebrities like Orlando Bloom and Ewin McGregor. This watch symbolizes incredible courage. Costing approximately $12,000, the EP 120 pilot’s watch will be available in September.

Ebel captivates the world with its limited edition 1911 BTR Perpetual Calender Chronograph.

ebel1911btrperpcalndr_lrg.jpg

Ebel has crafted a watch that seems more like architecture than horology. Having the same complications as other 1911 BTR watches, it is this magnificent design that sets this watch apart. The Ebel 1911 Perpetual Calender Chronograph is limited to 200 pieces. The complex complications of this stunning watch include a perpetual calender and a chronograph. Aesthetically, the 44.5mm watch case is crafted from 18K rose gold elegantly surrounded by a polished bezel and five polished screws - a trade mark of Ebel’s 1911 design. The striking veined pattern open-worked dial reveals the interior mechanical movements of this work of art.

The Ebel 1911 Perpetual Calender Chronograph has the following functions:

Chronograph, 30 minute and 12 hour counters, dials display: day of week, the date, months, leap year, moon phases.

Water Resistance to 100 meters insured by a screw down winding crown, insulated chronograph pushers.

The Sapphire watch Crystal is treated with an anti-glare for optimal viewing as well as high resistance to scratches.

The movement of the Ebel 1911 BTR Perpetual Calender Chronograph is the Ebel Caliber 288. Comprised of a mesmerizing 436 individual components. The balance wheel of this movement pulses 28,800 times per hour, allowing the chronograph to record independant time intervals with 1/8 of a second intervals. The automatic winding system is bi-directional and maintains a 43 hour power reserve. This movement has passed the vigorous 15 day testing performed by the COSC and thus has been awarded the title of Chronometer which is proudly displayed beneath the moon-phase indicator. The back of the watch can be viewed via a sapphire exhibition window.

Finally the strap is black alligator leather with a 18K rose gold deployment clasp.

Luxury Watch Company Breitling’s Emergency Watch.

breitling_emer_large.jpg

This watch is perfect for the person who has a passion for flying, but a protective spouse or mother. Show her this watch and it will do wonders to relieve her anxiety. This watch is geared to the aviation professional and thus it delivers with a circular slide rule, multiple time zones and chronograph. However the unique feature of this watch is its built in micro transmitter. What this does is that it has the ability to broadcast an emergency distress signal. Unscrew the protective cap on the right side of the case, completely extend the antennae. The Breitling Emergency Watch will then broadcast on the 121.5 MHz aircraft emergency frequency for 48 hours. The range of the broadcast will cover 100 miles.

In 2003. the Breitling Emergency watch enabled two British pilots, Steve Brooks and Quentin Smith, who had set out on an expedition to Antarctica, to be traced. The two men were involved in a helicopter crash around 100 miles from the coast of Antarctica. With no civilization in sight, the pilots , the survivors deployed the antenna of their watch, transmitting the signal. Rescue Services heard this signal and located the downed pilots. Lest the pilots not have the Breitling Watch, their fate would have been uncertain.

With this watch, Breitling had saved the pilots lives.

How do I protect my Luxury Watch from unsightly scratches?

ebel-beluga-watchery.jpg

I am so excited, I have just received an Ebel Beluga watch for my birthday. I just love it. I have been wearing my luxury watch all day admiring it in different lights. As soon as I placed the watch on my wrist I just knew it was me. However around midday, I took off my watch and carefully placed it on my granite kitchen counter. As I lifted the watch to retrieve it, I slid it on the counter, and as I did so, I heard a slight scratching sound. My heart dropped and I felt my mouth go dry. I could see where this was going. In another couple of months my watch was going to be riddled with scratches and scrapes. I inspected the watch carefully, and I could not find a mark. I breathed a sigh of relief, but this small incident made me aware that I had no idea how to keep my watch looking like new forever. I put my foot down and made a firm birthday resolution.

“This is not going to happen! I am going to enjoy this watch for ever.”

I did quite a bit of research.

My Ebel Beluga Watch Bracelet is 18K gold. Gold is a precious metal, in its pure 24k form, it is too soft to work with and so base metals are mixed in. In the case of my Luxury Watch 18K is a ratio of 18 parts gold to 6 parts base metal. Copper has been added to the gold of my watch to add the pinkish rose gold tinge. The bracelet is solid gold and so the gold will never wear off. However it is not immune to scratches.

The Sapphire crystal is the transparent cover that protects the dial. The Crystal is Scratch Resistant but not Scratch proof. Sapphire is harder than most materials but less hard than diamonds thus diamonds can scratch my scratch resistant sapphire crystal.

I have listed a couple of important tips to keep a Luxury Watch looking new for a long long time.

1. Wrap your Luxury watch in a soft cloth before placing it on a hard surface.

2. When not wearing, store your Luxury Watch in its original box.

3. Do not store your Luxury Watch with your other jewelry. Diamonds are harder than Sapphire Crystal and can scratch the surface.

4. Avoid wearing your Watch during high risk activity such as moving heavy equipment or Sports such as Rock Climbing. (Some Sports Watches are crafted for this type of activity. Make sure your Watch is designed for those activities.)

5. Avoid wearing other jewelry on the same wrist as the constant rubbing may cause abrasions to your Watch.

6. Avoid inadvertently scraping you watch against corridor walls or on furniture. Some man made materials used to make simulated stone surfaces for furniture and walls comprise of incorporated silicon carbide which is a very hard material and can scratch most Watch Crystals.

I found these tips extremely helpful, and I feel more confident about caring for the exterior of my watch.

Tag Heuer Merediist Phones are a hit.

tagmeridiistphone_lrg.jpgI have been following the advertising campaign of the Meridiist Heuer Phone for some time. I could not gauge how popular the cellphones may be once they hit the market. Well the phones have finally arrived and on the first day of its pilot launch in Selfridges London, the store’s entire stock had sold out. Ian Broad ,the sales manager for the UK region remarked that there were lines of enthusiastic customers eagerly waiting to see the phone. At one point the store was so crowded that the corridors were completely blocked. Currently Tag Heuer is back ordered on the phone for some time.

Steve Amstutz, General Manager of TAG Heuer Communication Instruments, stated, “”This gives us a real indication of the success that can be expected from this extraordinary new TAG Heuer product. It is also a great testament to the strength of the TAG Heuer brand. With such a successful jump start, the full MERIDIIST line will be progressively launched in 15 additional markets by year end 2008″.

The MEREDIIST was sold for 2,500 pounds, and I am sure you are wondering what it is about the phone that makes it so pricey.

  • Well for one thing, the phone is crafted with the same precise care used to craft the Tag Heuer Watches. The phones undergo strict quality control before released to the public. (How many times did you have to return a day old cellphone to the company as a result of having received a complete dud. You can be assured this will not happen with your MEREDIIST cellphone)
  • The phone is protected with Scratch resistant sapphire crystal and Corrosion Resistant Steel. The same materials used to protect Tag Heuers luxury Watch.
  • Tag Heuer is a brand that dates back to 1860. Over 100 years before Apple and just under 100 years before LG. So the phone does have a historical aspect to it.
  • Wearing a Tag Heuer Luxury Watch makes an impression, and so will the MEREDIIST cellphone.
  • A useful feature of the phone is a secondary OLED Time display on the top. This time display may be quite useful in preventing meetings to drag on beyond its appointed time as the top time display is clearly visible to those sitting opposite to the cellphone owner.

The phones make their official debut next month through TAG Heuer exclusive boutiques and specially selected retailers which have been chosen, by Tag Heuer for their outstanding service. Tag Heuer has an online service on the TAG Heuer official website for those who wish to pre-reserve a phone or would like to obtain additional information in regards to the phone.

Breitling Watch Of Bin Ladin ?

Join Me… I am having a Movado Moment.

It was late and I was up. I was surfing the net … just looking. All of a sudden I clicked on a collection of Movado Watches. I knew they were Movado . I mean, even half asleep, the clear distinctive dot at the 12 ‘o’clock positions could not be mistaken. I loved the Watches every one of them. I was wide awake… searching for the Movado Watch I just had to have. Come join me, in my “Movado Moment”.

movado-museum-rose-gold-skeleton-dot-watch-12049727071.jpg

This Movado Watch practically brought tears to my eyes (I get a bit emotional in the wee hours of the morn). This particular watch happens to be a limited edition of 25 skeleton timepieces in pink gold featuring the brand’s iconic Museum dial. The unique aspect of this particular model is a larger dot-shaped sapphire crystal aperture at 6 o’clock so that one may gawk at the red Movado ‘M’ and the movement’s stylish regulating mechanism. Incorporated within the watch is a manual-winding skeleton ETA caliber 6498.2 housed in 18K gold 45-mm cases.

I decided that Movado has a Watch for every occasion. This one would be my “very special occasion watch”. It is part of the Amorosa Movado Selection. I like the sophisticated two tone look.

kara.jpg

Utterly immersed in my “Movado Moment” I started searching for Mavado watches with intensity. I decided that it would be so cool if every family member had a Movado Watch. A Watch to suit his or her personality. It was then that I came upon this watch from a website called TheWatchery selling Movado Watches . They have a huge selection of Movado watches : Collection upon collection, and tons of watches in each collection. This watch is from Movado’s Kara Collection. I think it will be perfect for my daughter’s birthday. The baby pink watch face blends softly with the smooth contours of the stainless steel bezel and jewelry. The Movado dot seems to float in a sea of pink. Expecting a higher price, I was surprised to see the lower affordable price listed on the website.

ellip.jpg

Yes! This is a Movado Watch. I know you were trying to find the dot at the 12 o’ clock position, but not all Movado Watch carries the timelss “Museum Watch Design”. This Watch is from the Elliptica selection. A significant breakthrough design that Movado created in 2001. The case is a distinctive comma shape. The winding stem is at the 12 ‘o clock position. The numerals 3, 6, 9 and 12 are in the traditional spaces on the dial. The remaining numerals are lined up at the top and the bottom of the watch. An interesting Watch with a distinctive look.

Although I would love to extend my “Movado Moment” I have to depart. I will leave you with this amazing Movado video displaying the rugged and powerful 800 series.

Simply a Gimmick or a Useful Gadget!

There are alot of gimmicky gadgety watches out there nowadays. I needed to find a watch that would predict the path of a hurricane or any weather related issue, I might need to know. Now I know that I can purchase a GPS tracking watch which receives signals from orbiting satellites to determine the user’s latitude and longitude to within a couple meters, making its simple to track your current location, speed, direction of travel, distance to go, exact time and many other functions. Now this is great if one wants to know where one is, in relation to oneself and the rest of the world.

Currently, I know where I am, but I do not know where a great mass of clouds spinning around an extremely low pressure is. I could sit behind my computer and discover when and where the hurricane is in relation to myself. What happens, if I have no power, and I am huddled in my bathtub with the winds howling outside? This is the precise time, I would need my Hurricane Watch. I have searched high and low, and to my absolute delight, I did discover a Weather Watch. Quite disappointing actually.oregon-scientific.jpg

This Watch is the Meteo - Weather Forecast Watch- exciting huh! This Watch is quite sophisticated in that it can track the weather by measuring barometric pressure trends. Now here is the kicker, this sophisticated Watch will display the weather in four easy to read icons (sunny, partly cloudy, cloudy, and rainy). These icons are displayed for the upcoming weather conditions over the next 12 - 24 hours pertaining to the wearers zip code. I do not mean to frown on innovative ideas, but this watch seems to be avoiding technological advancements of this day and age. I need projected precipitation totals, wind speed, hurricane categories, temperatures - Am I asking too much?

My conclusion: This watch seems very gimmicky to me. What gave it away? It obvious lack of weather resistance.
